Questioning Print

Questioning Print brings together both professional and emerging designers, artists and printers, to open discussions exploring digital print making as an art form. Newly established design group 40/04 have conceived and are curating the show.

The exhibition examines the role of contemporary digital print. It explores the print possibilities that can be achieved, with a particular focus on the process of collaboration that exists between artist and printer.

Participants were given a brief to explore digital print as a process and concept. The artworks exhibited have been specifically made for the show rather than using previously created work. Whereas recent print exhibitions have been concerned with traditional processes, Questioning Print celebrates the contemporary.

Pixley Printhouse are working in Collaboration with 40/04 on this exhibition, printing much of the work shown. The relationship that the designers have built with Pixley Printhouse forms an important part of the concept. The success of the work is reliant on the collaboration between artist and printer. The prominent position of Pixley Printhouse throughout the exhibition reflects the printers importance in the industry.

The culmination of this process and experiment is being shown at Kemistry gallery between the 1st and 11th of June with the private view on the 2nd.
